PulmoVOC

Lung Cancer Diagnosis Using Exhaled VOC Data and Machine Learning

Lung cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths. No traditional non-invasive diagnostic methods can achieve both high performance and cost-effectiveness.
Recent research has found that cancerous lung cells produce certain abnormal chemical byproducts, which enter the bloodstream and reach the lungs, leading to the presence of specific volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in exhaled breath. Breath samples, collected when a patient exhales into a device, can be analyzed using sensors or other specialized equipment to generate VOC concentration data. The cost of breath capture and analysis is low.
PulmoVOC is a web-based app that diagnoses lung cancer using exhaled VOC concentration data and machine learning. PulmoVOC, a novel non-invasive diagnostic method, achieves performance comparable to or better than traditional non-invasive diagnostic methods at a lower cost.
